Paint ' n Sip
Since November 2023 we have had our
Paint 'n Sip sessions held by Hannah, Renee and Ranelle.
During these sessions our participants would make art, either painting, drawing or modelling, while sipping mocktails made by our supervisors.
Met Gayla
In 2023 and 2024 we had our Rainbow Youth Met Gaylas.
These events were celebrations of the year and a night out for our queer youth from around the West Coast.
We all had fun dancing, doing art and eating snacks.
Night Market
In 2022 we had our first Youth Night Market.
We have had these yearly since and have had an incredible turnout, with more than 20 youth stalls and 150-200 visitors.
The Youth Night Markets are an opportunity for youth to set up a stall and sell their creations to people on a special night. At this event, we often had baking, art, jewellery and clothing being sold.
During the event, we also invited youth musicians to come and perform.
Tech
We have held many tech workshops including animation (2D and 3D), music creation using LMNS, filmmaking and editing, using Blender, computer hardware, podcasting, using Canva, and we also ran a computer cyber security group.
Street Art
In December 2024 we held a street art workshop over two days. Two artists from Christchurch came over to teach 12 people how to create street art and then mural piece on the side of the DP1 café.
Gaming Events
Over the last three years we have held a few different gaming events. Our most popular have been our Valorant Tournament and Minecraft events.
These events were live-streamed and had many participants who enjoyed the gaming and competitive aspect.
Clothing
Repair Workshop
During September 2024 we had a clothing repair workshop, held as a part of Repair Café Aotearoa New Zealand's Repair Festival week.
We had a day repairing and altering clothing for visitors and ourselves.
Painting with Ranelle
On Thursdays, we have had Painting with Ranelle. A small group would come together each week to make art on paper, canvas and board.
The canvas art is currently being displayed at West Coast Health.
Open Mic
Since Art Soup started, one of our first and most popular events was the Open Mics.
People were invited to come and perform to a crowd, whether they were singing, playing and instrument or had a comedy act to present.
UC Percussion
Ensemble
In October 2024, we brought the University of Canterbury (UC) Percussion Ensemble to Greymouth.
70 members of the public attended their mind-blowing performance of Steve Reich's concert-length drumming, and 14 Grey District youth took part in the 2-day workshop and free concert.
It was an inspiring weekend of joy and connection through music.
